Introduction to Boron PLD Thin Films

Boron is a lightweight material which finds application in many common items such as borosilicate glass and high strength, light weight composites and ceramics. Under normal lab conditions boron difficult to investigate on it's own as it reacts with air and moisture but depositing a thin film allows thin films of Boron to be investigated by itself.

Boron is very hard nad has a very high melting point. Other the last few years we have had more and more requests for Boron PLD targets. 

Comparison to Other Materials

Compared to many other materials, B has a higher melting point, higher hardness, and lower coefficient of thermal expansion. B is also more chemically resistant than many other metals.

Storage of Boron Targets

Boron targets shold be stored in a glove box in an inert atmosphere.
